Innovation & Invention

This Innovation & Invention section is still taking shape, but it appears here in a shortened form to reflect Mick’s approach—moving ideas from research, insight, or napkin sketches to real products with market value and global impact; a core element of his product development work that combines innovative thinking with hands-on execution, whether through invention or the strategic improvement of existing solutions.

Innovation is defined as the successful application of ideas that create practical and economic value. Mick’s work focuses on bridging invention and implementation, translating original concepts and technical exploration into feasible, market-relevant products.

Implemented Innovation: Inclusive Gym Equipment

Inclusive Gym Equipment designed by Mick is a strong example of an innovative product. Its disruptive approach made it highly successful in the market and helped shape the category through new engineering solutions, a strong design language based on a careful balance between engineering and aesthetics, and improved user experience—especially for wheelchair users.

His approach combines the development of new inventions with the strategic adaptation of existing technologies, emphasizing validation through prototyping, usability, and manufacturing feasibility, like Gym Equipment.

Different Paths from Idea to Market

While some projects remain at the invention or prototype stage due to strategic or timing constraints (e.g. Umbrella handle+hand grip below), others progress into implemented products with measurable market adoption, demonstrating innovation as a structured and outcome-driven process (e.g. Sonic Pro device below, as a Product of the Year in the UK).

Provocative innovation

The Monsby lamp designed by Mick is an example of design-led innovation. Implemented from concept through prototype and limited production, it introduced a provocative interaction and form language that gained wide public and industry attention. Despite limited quantities, its impact extended beyond direct sales, shaping discourse, inspiring imitation, and increasing visibility for both the designer and related work—demonstrating how innovation can create value through cultural influence, not only scale.

The most viral lamp ever.
Invention in Transition: Baby Stroller

Iva baby stroller, designed by Mick in 2023 represents a fundamentally invention-driven project, originating from a clearly identified real-world problem and personal insight. Developed as a system-level solution, it introduces original mechanical and structural concepts aimed at redefining compactness, usability, and everyday mobility. Currently at the acquisition stage and moving toward market implementation, the project reflects the full trajectory from problem-solving invention through validation and into transition toward innovation—illustrating how technical originality becomes the foundation for future market impact.

Beyond Physical Products

Mick’s work extends beyond physical products into digital applications, hybrid hardware–software systems, and system design. Current projects include an AI-enabled food and wellness platform and a data-driven framework for evaluating organizational effectiveness, applying the same principles of system-level thinking, validation, and implementation across different domains.
