S5 Bar Stool | Personal Project

Client: Personal project
Year of design: 2013

The S5 bar stool is crafted from bent veneer, combining ergonomics, functionality, and refined aesthetics. Its unique construction creates a spacious compartment beneath the seat for storing a bag or personal belongings while sitting at a bar.

The leather upholstery is secured within a groove along the edge of the seat, eliminating the need for visible stitching. This technique also reduces leather consumption while allowing the underside of the seat to retain its natural veneer finish.

Design Objective: Create an elegant, functional bar stool with a built-in compartment for personal belongings, addressing the common problem of having nowhere to place a bag while sitting at a bar. The concept also explores the controversial nature of problem-solving design, where one solution may introduce another challenge: the risk of forgetting belongings when leaving.
